This very tall 36 1/2" Santos cage doll sits atop a traditional Spanish Colonial style boat shaped bastidor. This means that instead of having a round frame, she has an oblong boat shaped base. The bottom of her cage measures 14 1/2 inches wide by 8 1/2 inches deep. Beneath the cage platform is a base adorned with 3 carved cherubs.
This caged lady has a beautiful Mediterranean complexion, with dark brown eyes and shell pink lips. She has black hair rubbed with a plum hue, which coordinates beautifully with the rest of her colors, particularly her deep green frame and base. Her frame and base are painted with distressed, antiqued features. She is slightly 'chippy' (intentional) around the collar of her 'dress'.
This Santos doll is really an eye catcher. She would be the perfect statement piece on a buffet table or large mantle.
The crown shown in the fourth photo is our 3.0 inch Jeweled French Star Santos Crown. It is not included.
While the original dolls are hard to find —not to mention: often heavily damaged, yet expensive!—, these meticulously handmade reproductions have become collectors items in their own right! Fashioned after the antique European carved Santos, they are carefully hand crafted.
The lady's arms are jointed in the elbow and shoulder, providing her with limited (and/or perhaps asymmetrical) motion/postures; a distinction of unique craftsmanship!
Fashioned after the antique European Santos, they are carefully hand crafted. To make the hand painted doll unique, the craftsmen distress it; picking & choosing from a range of faux aging techniques. Variations occur with each handcrafted piece, particularly when being 'antiqued'. This is character, and not a flaw.
All photos are from our studio collection. Your doll will be very, very similar to the lady shown. Please keep in mind that the arm motion-/posture-capacity of your doll may differ from (i.e. be more, less, or similar to that of) the doll depicted.
