We love this Santos cage doll in particular, because of the extensive work that has been done to make her look like a proper antique!
She stands approximately 22 inches tall. Her body is tan, and she has 'plaster' on her head, and across her chest, covering up a folk style painted red heart with gentle gold flames at the top. We don't know if this is to be replicating the Immaculate Heart, or if it's designed to be 'wearing a milagro'. Either way, this is extremely unique to any other Santos that we have. She has shiny, inlaid eyes that have been painted on the back and then set in to place.
This Santos cage doll is articulated at the shoulders and elbows. Although she is articulated, please note that all joints do not always move symmetrically. One elbow may be stiffer than the other, for example. This is common, as it is with any hand made object, particularly when created in a vintage style.
Fashioned after the antique Santos, they are carefully hand crafted. To make the hand painted doll unique, the craftsmen distress it; picking & choosing from a range of faux aging techniques. Variations occur with each handcrafted piece, particularly when being 'antiqued'. This is character, not a flaw, and is intended to make each Santos uniquely beautiful.
All photos are from our studio collection. As these dolls are hand painted, slight variations may occur.
